Today I learned (TIL) that Darren Aronofsky loved Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue (1997) so much that he obtained rights to it, which allowed him to incorporate plot elements and specific scenes into Requiem for a Dream (2000) and Black Swan (2010).

And now that I've learned this, I'm smacking myself for not realizing earlier that Black Swan is really just a live-action Perfect Blue that features ballerinas instead of idols. I knew it seemed familiar, but I simply didn't make the connection.

The long nightmare might (not) be over…

For anyone who doesn't understand the significance of this…

Spoiler: show
Director Hideaki Anno has been "rebuilding" the legendary Neon Genesis Evangelion as a tetralogy of theatrical films, but the fourth and final film has been repeatedly delayed over the last five years. This indicates it is finally scheduled to be released on January 23.

The new designs look so much better in motion than they did in the character design promo art. The animation itself still looks kind of cheap, but I'm glad to be hearing those voices again.

Now bring back Slappy Squirrel and Minerva Mink.

Alex Trebek passed away.

Really broke my heart to wake up to that news. I watch "Jeopardy!" every weekday, often with my dad, and Trebek was always such a comforting figure. It's going to be hard to fill those shoes.

Wanna be like Kaede Kaga and try Gunpla (i.e., Gundam plastic model building)? I recommend the new "Entry Grade". It's an innovative design that is very easy to build in just a few hours without tools, glue, or paint. And like the name implies, it's priced to attract new people to the hobby — only $7 at Amazon…

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089RY41V6/

NOTE: Gunpla comes in multiple "grades", from low to high in scale/detail/price: Entry (new), High, Real, Master, Perfect.

As for build videos, first from the official Gundam channel…

…and then from an expert builder who goes further with optional paint and decals…

…supposedly to prove that even an inexpensive model can have an expensive finish.

Bonus: a tour of the store where that expert builder acquired* his stuff…

* I say "acquired" instead of "bought" because I think they have a relationship.
