a show named "Non-Stop!" fittingly talked about "Tairyoku Obake" (Stamina Monsters) Morning Musume. '19's non-stop 50 minute ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL 2019 performance
Morning Musume. '19's got the media buzzing about "Tairyoku Obake". Reminds me of the time when the words "Formation Dance" was first coined on Morning Musume and got everyone talking. Can they finally shed that "Formation Dance" era image now?

お化け (
obake) seems like an odd choice of word, given its creepy/spooky/gruesome connotation.
We would probably say "beast" in English, but the Japanese words for "beast" pretty much only mean wild animals.
I dunno…

In English, I think using Monster would still be more appropriate than beast. Has more impact.
In Japanese, I'd imagine similar, but who knows.

But in English, “beast” already has the secondary meaning of being strong, powerful, intimidating, etc.

Yes, but so does monster. Either word could be used, it's just that monster emphasizes the stamina more than beast does. Monster isn't only used do describe horrible powerful creatures. Stamina Monsers is great praise indeed.
Now, I'm talking from an English perspective. In Japanese, I don't know if obake has a more narrower meaning then just monster, but I imagine it doesn't if Japanese people are calling them that.

I don’t know where in the world everyone is from, but from my American English brain Stamina Monster made complete sense to me, comes across as a great compliment, and doesn’t sound awkward in the slightest. Also, Stamina Beast sounds the same to me and completely interchangeable.
Also why would we need to shed the Formation Dance image? It helped sky rocket then back to popularity and gave them attention they needed at the time. I think being known for their stamina just adds to the image they already have... that they are high tier, very professional, and very talented.
