1. Yogisha X no Kenshin (容疑者Xの献身); aka The Devotion of Suspect X by Higashino Keigo (東野圭吾)
Yasuko Hanaoka is a divorced, single mother who thought she had finally escaped her abusive ex-husband Togashi. When he shows up on her doorstep threatening violence and extortion, he ends up dead on her floor. Her neighbor Ishigami, middle-aged high school math teacher, offers help in disposing of the body and plotting a cover-up. What ensues is a high level battle of wits, as Ishigami tries to protect Yasuko by outmaneuvering and outthinking Dr. Manabu Yukawa, a.k.a Professor Galileo. (Goodreads)

• Originally published in 2005. Published in the U.S.A in 2011. The third in the Galileo series.
• Has won or been nominated for numerous awards; 5 in Japan and 3 in the United States.
• Was adapted to film three times (Japan in 2008, South Korea in 2012, China in 2017), with an English language film in development.

• Ayaka likes that Higashino's work is a "standard" place, and that even his originality has become standard (easy to pick up) through his expressive power; he doesn't write for one specific type of person to read(?). She thinks this novel is a good place for people to start if they want to try a mystery.

Shibireru (痺れる) by Numata Mahokaru (沼田まほかる)
A collection of nine short stories that, like a nightmare, will be in possession of your heart forever.

• Originally published in 2010. Reprinted in 2012.

• Ayaka thinks the short story format/editing of this novel means it would be easy to pick up even if you aren't good at reading. The charm of the author here is "spookiness through beautiful words"; the madness felt in the beautiful words will frighten those who read between reality and the imagination.

Himawari no Sakanai Natsu (向日葵の咲かない夏) by Michio Shusuke (道尾秀介)
A school boy named Michio is asked to visit his friend S-kun at home when he doesn't attend closing ceremony before Summer vacation. Upon reaching his house he hears a strange sound, and finds S-kun hanging by his neck. Once the cops arrive his corpse disappears. A week later S-kun re-appears in a new form and asks his friend to trail the murderer to find his missing corpse.

• Originally published in 2008.
• Was a candidate for the Honkaku Mystery Awards.

• Ayaka finds the element of reincarnation a key point in the story; it provides an unrealistic eeriness not found in other mysteries. The author places clever hints throughout that lead the reader and make you want to read it over many times.

Juice=Juice Miyazaki Yuka live appearance as a reporter on local Ishikawa pref. NHK information show "Shuunkan☆Gotouchi LIVE" 2.19.19

Yuka visits one of the three biggest gardens in Japan, tries some local cuisine and even eats ice cream with gold leaf in the cold winter.


Yuka already found her calling as the next pro TV reporter for her home prefecture.
