Is it just me, or for the past two singles the hooks (chorus) haven't really been the most catchy? Like they're good, but they're not... bam.

I disagree. They all have a solid hook for me.
"Koko kara dashite", "a gonna", "love you~", "so iranai".

All ear worms.

Well, I didn't mean "ear worms" because the first two have gotten stuck in my head, I'm talking about like- a full-sounding hook that makes you go "damn, that could be my favorite song". A lot of recent MM songs have had that feeling, but imo the past two releases haven't had it.

I disagree as well, are you happy is my top pick this year, and whenever I listen to it I still get pumped up.

I need the release to fully appreciate MM’s newest songs, but I do like them both, great single so far

I guess we can all agree to disagree :)
I still like the singles, I think they're good!

I get what you mean. Sexy Cat was like this for me, too. I see some people calling it a 'lack of climax'; for me it's also not having a clear chorus, or having a chorus that's repeated 10 times along with only one or two other sections that are also repeated without any noticeable variation. Furari Ginza is two melody lines alternated over and over. They're damn catchy and cute, I love the song, but that's it. There's no section (excluding the dance break) that makes me go 'ohhhh that's so good!'. Are You Happy sounded like a song full of verses/bridges but no chorus.

Some people don't mind or notice, some do. It's not like I think the songs are bad because they aren't the usual format, the opposite is true because I still listen to these songs like crazy (excluding A Gonna, not even gonna let myself offend anyone who likes it), but I haven't been WOW'd since Dokyuu no Go Sign/Brand New Morning.

Oh btw, I'm glad to love both of these songs this time. Furari has me with its harmonies, Jiyuu has me with that sick beat. I dunno what that kindergarten-torn paper backdrop is, though. It's such a weird contrast to how damn good the girls look. Kaede slaying me with that smile. Also, what the hell is with this ikemen Maria taking my eyes away from ikemen Kaede?? Her expressions and that effortless baton twirl, jesus.
