I'm not the biggest S/mileage fan on record, but I'm actually kind of hoping this single does really well. With the last single getting Smileage's first daily number 1 and Berryz on their way to their highest selling single, I think it would be such a boon for H!P to see this do well.
Go S/mileage!

I hope that it does really well too. I don't know how smart it was to focus most of their efforts solely in the Osaka/Kansai region but hey, it's a shit-ton of promotion regardless. Add to that a handful of reasons why I want to see it do well;
1) I think that this might be one of the first singles where S/mileage really looks like one group again (I agree that for awhile it looked like S/mileage was a disjointed group where 1st gen and 2nd gen seemed separate).
2) Yattaruchan is a dynamite of the epitome of funky-weird Tsoonk production. It's also not surprising to see S/mileage do this song.
3) Atarashii Watashi ni nare! is a sexy-cool song that wouldn't seem weird to see Morning Musume or C-ute perform as one of their original songs. In fact, it's so sexy-cool (and well done) that it wouldn't be weird to see another non-H!P affiliated girlgroup sing/perform it. Atarashii Watashi ni nare! (at least IMO) has mass market appeal.
4) Both of the PVs are really, really, really great. Yattaruchan fits the funky, crazy image and while simpler (and maybe low-budget) Atarashii Watashi ni nare! was executed really well.
5) S/mileage seems to have the same fighting spirit that MM. and C-ute has. It's as if with this single S/mileage is saying "MM and C-ute aren't the only ones working their asses off, we are too! Look at us!!!!"

^ No.3 - Music wise I agree but those lyrics to me just seem very immature in a way, and for that reason it just seems perfectly S/mileage. Possibly Juice=Juice but it needs more brass for that. lol

If Yattaruchan doesn't make this one of their best selling singles then Japan is the country of bad-taste-chan

I have to wonder if the immature lyrics are intentional. It really feels like a teenager have a teenager crisis and I have to wonder if Tsunku was just getting into the mind of what teenagers thought was a major breakdown of their life

It's really well done if that's the case.

Well... he's said he does write lyrics from what the members talk about and stuff and he probably reads their blogs too so. It'd make sense if he was inspired to write a teenage song if he keeps hearing teenagers talk about this or that.
