I've never been interested in them very much, and I just checked this new single that's being a hit. And meh. Still find them musically unattractive.
But not a surprise. If we exclude the "hard and violent" factor, it's pretty much an AKB kind... with a not-so-good production, of course : /

I've heard their management is kinda shady, but I have no evidence to back that up.

Also, hardly anyone releases anything on New Year's week. So they took an opportunity and seized it.

I don't see anything there worth selling that much tbh. Ew. The song is average at best. But the screamo/babymetal attempts are horrible.

It's ¥500, which is basically nothing, so I think it sold based on that.

I don't think the song is bad, I looked up some of their other songs too and they weren't bad either. It's very standard Jpop idol stuff with some heavy metal in the background. They are kind of missing the point of BABYMETAL a bit - where they combine the two sounds to create a new one - this group kind of overlays the idol stuff on top of the Heavy Metal - making it sound like two different songs.
