I never understood why she didn't take off. She had a fanbase already, she was famous already, had the money and name of Avex behind her, AND the song she released - WERE ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD. Why the popstar fail?! I'll never get it. Maki's solo stuff under Avex > anything Koda has done.

Because she lost a lot of her idol fanbase, I think, when she stopped being an idol.
And she did go down hill when with H!P and it's difficult to get up once you're down (I'm amazed that Musume manages).
But yeah, I don't know. I love Maki's stuff a lot more than lots of Avex artists. One can just hope she decides to come back eventually and then does so with full force.

With Aibu Saki it's difficult to like. Hayami's robot acting worked only cause he was supposed to be one.

I've lost all faith in avex's ability to manage solo females especially after they destroyed ICONIQ's career
I wasn't expecting Maki to become the next Namie or smth but she should have done way better.-
