Twitter is imploding, Reddit is actively going against their users, Mastodon is too complicated and posting on Discord is too ephemeral.

Everybody should just go back to forums. :giggle:

Here is how to bypass the twitter rate limit.

The "rate limit" exists because their server seems to be DDoS-ing itself. I would put zero stock into the whole "it's a new feature" explanation.

I believe it's the other way round. The rate limit wasn't a result of the DDoS but the primary cause. The server wasn't programmed to account for people's accounts being limited so it just kept repeatedly sending fetch requests for responses that never arrived to the extent that traffic was being blocked by the server's spamming itself

It's a test to see how such limits affect data scraping. The majority of resources (servers, bandwidth, etc.) is consumed by a relatively small number of crawlers and bots, some of which have malicious intent and most of which provide no real value to the sites being scraped. Anyone who actually works in system administration or large-scale web development understands this. See also the recent changes to APIs and login requirements.

The only people who are freaking out and screaming "Twitter is dead!" are the lowest of low-level, mouth-breathing users who just sit and scroll all day.

That doesn't include any of you, does it…? <meaningful stare>

erilaz wrote:I missed their performance at last year's Meltdown  but in the audience and checking out today's amazing lineup were Mila, Eloise, and Lucia from the Linda Lindas!

Belated update from Mosswood Meltdown: As I kinda expected, on Sunday the three Lindas appeared onstage. That they appeared with Bratmobile wasn't too surprising; they joined the kids' chorus for Bratmobile's finale, a cover of the Runaways' "Cherry Bomb". What was surprising, though, was when they came out to help Bay Area punk-rock pioneers, the Avengers, on vocals for two songs! :w00t: When lead singer Penelope Houston announced that they were going to have some actual teenagers sing on "Teenage Rebel", Mila pointed out that she's still only 12.

Another surprise was the sheer weirdness of the Teddy Bear Orchestra: A punk-rock vocalist with a fake German accent, abusively conducting an orchestra of animatronic teddy bears. The climax of their set was a huge inflated teddy bear with a Santa hat, crowd-surfing in the audience. Only at Mosswood Meltdown! XD
