Put it this way: when Sakura joined, I thought my Riho will get less lines. Sakura did sing a lot more, but Riho didn't lose a lot and she's still center last time I checked.

I'm not too sure about Ayumi though.....

Kill me, but maybe Sasaki Rikako could be a good addition in that sense since she's already somewhat known and it'd be a good slap in the face to AKB.

I think you might be overestimating how "known" Rikako is. As far as I know she didn't appear on a ton of variety or anything, just a few small segments on a couple of shows.

This article from aol is trending on yahoo videotopics right now and I've learned not to underestimate the Japanese media/internet community hype machine when they're determined to make a "thing" *cough*HashimotoKanna*cough*.
Helps a lot too if you've got a backstory like hers (the star of Kesennuma) that pretty much sells itself.

For my part I'd rather she be the focus of an entirely new group, mainly because I find the prospect of inevitable comparisons such as the one in the article ("if you combined Maeda Atsuko and Oshima Yuuko together you'd get a bishoujo like Sasaki Rikako) and the predictable back and forth that will ensues too tiresome to stomach
Plus she's good enough for it, I think.
