The 'idol makeover' is without a doubt a real thing, but this one seems to be a supercharged version.

Her face doesn't look natural in that photo, like there had to have been filtering involved. Or are her eyes really that big? It's almost uncanny valley like in a way. Maybe I just need to get use to her face.

Her eyes are definitely big but it's also the filter she's using, which is a pity considering her natural beauty. I notice how new members always go through this cute awkward stage of selfie-taking (see Tako-chan). I try to cherish this fresh period of their idol career but that is certainly jarring yeah

Irie Risa on the other hand seems to have skipped that stage

Since when does H!P use filters on their official photos? Not saying it's impossible but I'd wait to see how the new look comes off live before jumping to that conclusion. I think she's just been punking us all along with that homely, hair-pulled-back, no makeup disguise.

It always takes me awhile when members go from foreheads to fringe. It’s really hard when you know them with a certain style and they just throw you for a loop. (Hi Sakura and Mao). Are you even a fan at that point, what is life? Speaking of Mao.

I know what you mean--sometimes girls are near-unrecognizable after a hair change. I feel like Gaki's bangs were the first H!P fringe-gate (though it was almost 100% in the positive direction).

Yeah I agree with that, features are easy to recognise when it’s facial features but if their main feature is their hair (E;g Reina Y when she had black long hair the first couple of years sometimes that can throw you off like did MM always have that many members with short hair??)

Gaki’s hair stages was drastic, she went from pig tails to Freshman High School teen (see Joshi Kashi Monogatari for example) - to wooly curls - to Classic Bob cut

^on a side note I wonder if theres a behind the scenes trend for the Tsubaki members to change up their looks?
