i'm all for people looking things up on their own, but you two are not the best people to suggest that. you guys have a habit of telling people what the proper way of thinking/acting/going about things is, and so suggesting people that they look things up themselves just comes off as a lecture and not a friendly suggestion (especially with the way you two tend to phrase your suggestions).
also you guys assume that they are asking because they are too lazy to look it up themselves, or haven't bothered to do the work involved in figuring out how to do things themselves. that's not always case.. sometimes people may be on a slow connection and the site isn't loading for them, as happened to someone recently. sometimes they may be checking from work and can't load the site, as was the case this time. other times it may be something hard to explain.. like perhaps this person looks things up for themselves all the time, but at the moment they are in the middle of cooking and have to go watch the pot and so instead of waiting until they are done cooking and eating to look it up, they post a quick question that maybe someone will have a quick answer to that they can read while they are stirring the pasta.
it's not a horrible thing to ask once in a while. and if you notice a person is always asking and never does things for themselves, then maybe you can make a friendly suggestion like, "hey, have you tried bookmarking this link on Oricon? that way you can see the ranking any time you want. top-right tab also links to daily rankings."
