Spoiler: show
I knew what was going to happen because I stumbled upon spoilers {was looking at the timeline and I don't know why the hell I clicked on the latest year and kept scrolling), but once again, my heart was pounding despite knowing what's going to happen (or because I knew it's going to happen?).

Spoiler: show
The story has diverged enough in certain respects that even book readers with great memories can't be absolutely sure of exactly what's going to happen. For example the Sansa/Baelish subplot this episode changed Sansa's role in a very important respect from the book, with many people, including me, thinking the way it transpired on TV was better. The Missandei/Worm story doesn't even exist in the book, and it's lovely, though perhaps not essential to the entire series arc. The way I see it, sheer page volume aside, the internal struggles of characters plays such a large role in Martin's writing that they have to find other ways to advance the story on screen. In some cases just removing entire scenes, in some cases resorting to clunky exposition, and in many cases attempting to translate the general tenor of the written page into a new scene which may create, combine or transpose characters and locations. It's not always successful but when it works it adds a new dimension to the story, like an elaborate cutscene on a DVD.

I also liked some of the cinematic storytelling devices the director employed, for example, in a couple of scenes having direct questions go unanswered on screen, which tends to be used more in "serious" film than on TV. Or the juxtaposition of seeing an Ironborn warrior go immediately from alive to gruesomely dead. A kind of gallows humor, but deadly serious in portraying the stark immediacy of Ramsay's treachery and cunning.

^ But at the same time…

Spoiler: show
…many of the changes are inconsequential detours that serve only to pad the season and give some characters more to do. Book readers know they're inconsequential detours because if they play out in any other way, they'll short-circuit major plot points later on. For example (and probably the most egregious so far): the entire "Return to Craster's Keep" sub-plot with Jon's group, Bran's group, Locke, and the surviving mutineers. Without that sub-plot, either we wouldn't see much of Jon and Bran this season or their respective stories would be much further advanced at this point, possibly getting out of sync with everyone else.

Even worse, sub-plots that are in the books seem to be getting cut in order to make time for those other sub-plots. Like, whatever happened to Arya's direwolf, Nymeria? That particular sub-plot helped to explain Arya's growing ferociousness, and it also illustrated how all of the Stark children have some ability to warg. That's why they bonded with the direwolves in the first place. Bran's ability was simply the most developed (followed in order by Arya, Robb, Rickon, Jon, and Sansa).

^ You raise some good points. I spent quite a bit of time on a much more detailed response, but at the end, it just came across to me like I was disagreeing with no particular conviction, and not really worth writing or reading.
