Morning Musume. '17 13th Generation : Kaga Kaede & Yokoyama Reina

Nah. It's just that I've never oshi'd an actual front girl before* . I don't think it'd bother me, unless of course she turned out to be boring. But I already know I like her voice and her personality, so I find it hard to imagine with her. I just hope they don't waste her and actually try to give her something, but we'll see.

*In MM。. Riho's close but she's not oshi-levels. Outside of MM。I've oshi'd front girls, but that's not quite the same.

Kaede wasn't my favorite Kenshuusei but I'm so happy for her. I know how much this meant to her especially seeing her juniors debut before her. Sounds cheesy but dreams really do come true

Reina is a typical KSS pull for MM, but I'm so ecstatic for Kaede! It's really heart-warming to see all the work she's done and all the time, money and energy she's put into the KSS program pay off for her. I've always really liked her performances, and I really hope things go well. I hope we get their reveal footage for them as well. I know Kaede's footage would make me bawl. I'm a sucker for the "hallmark"y quality to her getting in.

You can HEAR the shocked, happy gasps of the audience when Kaede's name is called. No one was expecting this, that's for sure.

You sure your not going to stop liking her if she does become the center of MM? There are some people who tend to just always hate who is getting the most attention because it takes away from the other girls and with Kaede's dedicated fan base I wonder if they would turn on her the moment she becomes a Riho esque center. Not that im accusing you of doing that, but it's a legitimate concern I have and I wonder what you think about it.

I admit I have this problem sometimes. I tend to like rooting for underdogs. My best example is Ai Takahashi, who was a clear favorite of mine from 2003-2007 then as soon as she became front girl I just completely lost interest. I was younger back then and since I haven't rooted for a front girl (I chose Junjun and Harunan after all) but I sometimes wonder how I'm going to feel about Maria as she's pushed to the center. She was my clear favorite on 12th when she got in and is easily set to be my Oshimen once Harunan graduates, but I could see myself flipping to Miki to keep the underdog push. Kind of a "They have enough support, so I'll give another girl much needed support" thing. So FAR I don't seem to be doing that, but I don't really switch oshimen all willy nilly.

Kaede is a true underdog story. People are shocked and elated right now, but I do wonder if some people will turn on her if they see her pushed too quickly.

In that picture, Kaede gives me some serious Morning Musume circa 1998-2001 vibes.

I haven't talked about Reina yet! Sorry Reina the Kaede thing is just so shocking! I picked her right at the last minute because I did some digging on her since people were saying she had a "Morning Musume vibe" and after all that digging I pretty much agree. She made an impression so quickly with people, and her look is really current Momusu. She really endeared herself to me over this last week, so I'm pretty happy to see her there.
