It's not about "proving themselves" maybe some fans (me included) just love the satisfaction of their group ranking high. I already know they're great I don't need to be told that. But their recent stuff doesn't really get more mainstream than what theyve been putting out

I feel like C-ute have been around for so long that having an Oricon #1 would be good, but not essential. Since its really just "yay management finally timed it right so we could get a #1 single in weekly sales", rather than a measure of the groups success.
I would really love it if one of the a-sides had a kpop vibe like Urayanjau. C-ute pulled it off really well on the last album and it could've been an a-side, certainly a lot more unique than the EDM songs Cool Hello has been mass producing like The Middle Management.

this. I doubt it'd ever happen soon with E-girls monopolising that whole scene and Airi not even being able to attend Girls Award as a model yet despite being a model for Ray Magazine.
But even just 1 one would be nice, even if it was just Airi and Shirashi Mai. Maybe a Samatha Thamasva with the two of them in the future, but they're not Avex so I doubt they can get the same boost that Dream gets even when they flop.

what's the difference if you get an Oricon #1 when you sell 60,000+ every time? It means nothing

Oricon may mean spotlight in the media news but in reality it means nothing since all of Japan knows that Oricon is basically built on inflated fan sales. You take ALL that away and the real numbers would be SO much lower.
That's why I hope for a grower, a song that stays in the public for a long time. Not just another throw away song. C-ute deserve that type of song.

A #1 on the Oricon gives you media attention that you wouldn't have gotten otherwise. It might also open some more doors at TV shows and other media outlets.
You could say it's an investment in getting a broader fan base through more and a broader exposure.

Even if charts mean nothing, a number 1 is still a number 1. It'll always look good as it's an easier mark of success to quote.

Oricon chart to me means nothing. Digital charts and charts that don't take into account multiple sales of the same single (multiple versions of same single) mean more to me. So if they rank high on one of those charts then that makes me happy. That shows me more mainstream success. Give them some CM deals, more tv exposure outside their usual routine. Get them on Music Station. They need or deserve a "summer" hit. I hope they get that with this single. I want that for any group in H!P. But more so for C-ute.

saying "sold 60,000" sounds better than "got weekly #1" to me, because "weekly #1" is a fluctuating thing, you can get a weekly number 1 with like 15k sales. "60,000" means "60,000" means "60,000". (and 60,000 is good)
