I think that Kanon's case illustrates the fickle nature of the idol business. Kanon was an ace singer/dancer and a prodigy, but she was a total failure as a self marketer. While contemporaries like Sayumi and Momoko were able to latch on to silly/stupid gimmicks and make careers out of them, Kanon's attempts at self marketing were legendarily ineffective. Cinderella Revolution? Maro? It's sad but true that the gods of the idol world will allow some girls to find gimmicks that work while other girls never find a gimmick that gets them off of square one.

Btw, if anyone's worried about Ayaka graduating soon, she updated her blog and basically confirmed that she was going nowhere and that she loves the 2nd gen and 3rd gen members.
