One of the Armenian churches in the area was having an Armenian food festival today, so I took a break in the middle of several hours of proofreading to have some shish kebab, pilaf,
lahmajoun,
eetch,
yalanchi sarma…. This is my kind of comfort food, and it was all very good. The lahmajoun especially was first-rate.
They were also having a bazaar, selling such things as baked goods, religious books, and gifts. In the book section they had
free Bibles and New Testaments, so I grabbed a nice hardbound Bible in Western Armenian. (What I really need now is one in
grabar, Classical Armenian.) I also bought something in the Christmas boutique: a set of 40 wooden Armenian alphabet blocks. It was only $20, so I couldn't resist.
