It's also their biggest viral hit on YouTube, and as such, it was (until very recently) the top hit when you search for their name.

In other words, it's the song for which they're best known, for better or worse.

UGH so bummed. I like Gimmie Choco but it absolutely does not show Su's Power as a vocalist. Megitsune or maybe something off the new one woulda been good

Megitsune should have been performed instead.

Speaking of Babymetal I was surprised to see that their new album is on Amazon Prime Music.

About the song choice, I think that the Stephen Colbert demographic is largely old enough to remember the Japanese-female-duo-fronted+John Lennon's son NYC band of 20 years ago, "Cibo Matto," if not first-hand then from their guest artist appearance on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They were best known for whimsical songs like "Know Your Chicken" and:

Sugar Water

and as a result a great many people in Colbert's audience might have the impression that Jpop = cute Japanese girls singing about food. So for that reason Gimme Chocolate is a savvy choice since we all love having our preconceptions and stereotypes comfortably validated.

(Yes, professor, I know technically Cibo Matto still exist and released maybe their best album a couple years ago.)

^ Back in '98, a reviewer in the San Francisco Chronicle accused Shonen Knife of stealing from the Cibo Matto playbook when they sang about food, so I was compelled to write a reply (which was published), pointing out that Shonen Knife were doing it before Cibo Matto even existed. XD

"Megitsune" is unquestionably my favorite BABYMETAL song, but I wonder how the average American late night TV viewer would respond to it.

"Shonen Knife were doing it before" is probably a pretty good all-purpose response to anything. :hehe:

This is NSFW so I'm spoilering it and warning that it's basically equal parts PV and gravure video, with the artist in a bikini, getting a risky massage, hula-hooping, taking a (clothed) shower, lots of incredibly inappropriate (clothed) closeups, etc. I've never even heard of her prior to 15 minutes ago so I have no idea if this PV is supposed to be ironic or what. However, it's relevant to this thread for two reasons. First, it's a pretty good song. Second, look inside her apartment when she's on her terrace...!

ぱいぱいでか美 「私の名前を呼んでください!」
Paipaidekami
Watashi no namae o yonde kudasai! (Call me by my name!)

If you want to know what's in her apartment without having to watch the clip:
Spoiler: show
Posters of juice=juice, Momochi, Michishige, some others I don't recognize.

They said members of NCT U can come and go as they please. Trying to avoid any future lawsuits? :fear:
