A-kira + ME-mei + RIna + KAna = Amerika
(It does not have anything to do with the Azumanga Daioh vignette where girls were divided into teams such as Team America and Team Japan based on their figures.)

I discussed about it in the Trivia thread last week.

It's quite the annoying nickname too.
Can we just do "Ame-Rica" to make it easier?
Also, is that "smileage_english" thing official?

I don't think it's confusing if you consider the context.
As for the twitter account:
https://twitter.com/namasma_engDescription: "Unofficially translates Smileage member tweets and relevant info! "

No. Using a hyphen makes it look like it was 2 people. Plus, the point of the whole situation was because of a coincidence that the first syllable of their names spell out the name of an existing country. America it is.

so if anything, the coincidence of their first syllables should make it "Amerika"

tbh, either way works.

Okay, fine, I'll suffer my '80s-era Cold War anxieties in silence.

It just sounds funny. Say out loud "I hung out with America today." "America bought me a gift."

America is spelled "Amerika" in many languages that use the Latin alphabet because it's more common to use only the letter "k" for the [k] sound.
