I don't think it was necessarily a rumor? Though some may have spawned from it (like that tumblr post people were running with, and the translator had to clarify that they were joking). Just the running joke between the two in interviews when they say that they don't like to be around eachother lol.

after the 3rd segment aired today, Ayumi did a promo for her 4th Araara kashiko segment in Miyagi. She is going to make a live appearance in studio. Airs live on 2/7.

The fact they're even in the news over something that tiny wouldn't even have happened 4 years ago. It's interesting to see this kind of thing again.
