Sion Sono's works are very non-mainstream though. To be honest, I found many of his works not good. The actress Mano Erina is probably still unknown to most people. But more acting roles will only do her good, so I hope it keeps coming. I really wish that Ai's throat will fully recover soon, so that she can do start acting again though. That is her goal after graduation right?

Takahashi is doing mainly musical theater work but also some small films. Nothing big like Mano though.

^^ I agree with that. I was actually put off that a director whose works I don't like was working with my favourite idol. I don't think I'll ever watch any of those movies; I still have nightmares of Guilty of Romance and I really disliked Minna! Esper da yo

Has anybody yet mentioned that Niigaki Risa's movie "BLACK FILM" is on the H!O tracker? I've seen about half of it so far and my impression is that Risa's pretty decent. It's not like they got together a bunch of c-list actors who have to try to carry the film for the horrible idol. It's more like she's right up there with her fellow c-listers, actually better than some of them. She's surprisingly subdued, and I infinitely prefer that to, say, Takahashi's "I! AM! SO! ACTING! RIGHT! NOW!" style.

My impression from watching their works is that Risa does better with a more powerful, more serious role, while Ai is more natural. Mano has the look and the aura of an actress, but I would rate her acting lower than Ai and Gaki at the moment. Heck, she did not have to do much in Minna Esper da yo. Patlabor really does her good, but the movies are really niche and shallow. Mano role is very standard too. Regardless, Risa and Mano show very strong wills and passions for their career. Risa wrote many on her blog that she really love and want to do stage acting. And Mano said in this Patlabor interview that despite seeing her senpai in variety and stage play, she really want to act for film and TV series and leave the work as a result of her effort.
