I initally started a rewatch of the 90s anime (the shitty 4KIDS English dub that I grew up on) but haven't made it very far because, well, I can only handle so much of it. Though I have watched the last batch of 11 or so episodes that aired this year and were Ash and Pikachu's send-off.

And I'm following the new anime, which has an entirely new cast of characters -- including a proper female protagonist this time, as well as a male deuteragonist. I like the female lead Liko quite a lot, but to me, the real star of the show is a certain character who was clearly made with a very specific audience in mind:

Amethio

Spoiler: show

UPDATE: Six episodes in, I can safely say that I have fallen harder for this silly anime boy than I thought I would. I'm also very much enjoying the anime for what it is, but like... oh my god. Amethio. He really was made for me.

He's great. I love his silly henchmen too.

Good Omens Season 2…

Season 1 was excellent, but of course it was a mostly faithful adaptation of an excellent book. (I'm still waiting for my Four Other Horsemen of the Apocalypse.)

This… I'm not so sure. The book was written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Gaiman brought the big ideas, Pratchett brought the whimsical charm. Without Pratchett, I don't know how this can work.

The sophomore effort of this type of series usually falls off but I'm determined to enjoy it no matter what.

Netflix is releasing a live action adaptation of One Piece, and it probably looks about how you'd expect:

I'm going to have to watch the dubbed-into-Japanese-and-subbed-back-into English version of this to figure out how I feel about it :whistling:

Did anyone here watch Gundam Witch from Mercury? What do you think? :)

^ Meh. A childish premise — essentially a tournament of school-age champions sponsored by various schools/houses/corporations — and weird, one-off mech designs. Even the hero Gundam and its upgraded form(s) is an obvious rip-off of the GP01 from 0083 Stardust Memory.

Keep in mind that I'm heavily biased toward the original Universal Century (UC) storyline. I prefer the harder sci-fi premise, with its legitimate questions about the relationship between a globalist but mostly lawful Earth government and extremist, neo-feudal space colonies. (The Expanse asks many of the same questions.) And the mech designs make a helluva lot more sense: they have real weight, they fill specific combat roles, and they evolve in realistic ways over time (e.g., GM → GM II → GM III → Jegan → Jesta).
