Xenophobia and racism are slightly different things, Zam. Xenophobia is more... disliking foreigners because they're scared of them, right? I could be wrong but that's how I see it. Racism is just disliking someone because they're a different race.
I'm not trying to justify their xenophobia. But seriously, get over yourself. It's a thing. Foreigners aren't always accepted into Japanese society. Sure, not all Japanese hate all foreigners -- that's not my point. My point is that the Japanese as a race have a tendency to be xenophobic and tend to favour Japanese stuff (whether it be people, food, music, manufactured goods, etc). I'm aware most countries are the same, and I'm not saying Japan is the worst place in the world to be if you're a foreigner. It'd still be wise to be a bit cautious, though -- I'm sure that sometimes they mess around with you just because you're foreign.
I guess it also depends on which parts of Japan you go to. I'm sure, for example, the Okinawans would probably be more against the Americans than, say, people from Hokkaido.
Btw, I know several Japanese people. I've met a few in real life. As I said, the younger generations tend not to be as xenophobic as the older generations. All the Japanese people I know are really nice. But there are still those out there who don't want anything to do with foreigners.
Also I'm assuming you missed all the hate Junjun and Linlin got from the Japanese side of the fandom.
