Which must make the producers of plays and television dramas the creepiest people of all, because the actually cast h!p girls in real life into roles that they might not be anything like.

I have no desire to be a celebrity, and probably most people don't. I can only imagine that for the most part they actually enjoy the thought of thousands or millions of strangers absolutely adoring them. I guess what I'm saying is the mindset that makes Riho do what she does probably also would make her feel good that she's got fans obsessing over her. The minute fans *stop* making Riho dolls is probably when she starts to worry.

As always, Zunu has a point.

Fanfiction does tend to freak celebs out though (H!P fanfiction would be classified under RPF, which a lot of people in the Fanfiction world think is creepy). RPF has spawned some funny pictures and notes though, manly a picture of the guys who play the Weasley Twins with a sign that says "Say no to Twincest" and an interview of the guys who the the Winchester Brothers on Supernatural being EXTREMELY creeped out by all the RPF slash there is of them (And their characters, no less!).
RPF on it's own sparks debate between fanfiction writers on whether or not is Kosher to write. If it's weird to fanfiction WRITERS then it's going to be weird to a fandom that doesn't rely on Fanfiction to fan out (Like H!P). Then, one can reasonably assume, it's going to be super weird to the person it's being written about.
Luckily for the H!P fandom, none of the girls are fluent in English.
(This diatribe is not against RPF, just explaining it's creepiness factor compared to other forms of Fanfiction. If people enjoy RPF that's their business.)

I've written some FF in the past but not seriously, so honestly until reading your post it never occurred to me that there was a distinction between the genres of regular "fanfiction" and Real Person Fiction, or that the celebrities in an RPF piece would be particularly grossed out by it. To me, fanfiction is fanfiction, especially since, as you mention, Haropro FF is RPF basically by default. But even elsewhere I just never gave any thought that say, Daniel Radcliffe could potentially be skeeved out by a slashfic involving himself and Rupert Grint moreso than with one involving "Harry Potter" and "Ron Weasley."

I certainly won't try to say that H!P fanfiction isn't all about pairing up girls because it mostly is.
However, there is a long list of h!p girls who have implied pairings for fanservice. Are they going to be weirded out by stories building off of ideas that they came up with? (For example, would Eri and Sayu be weirded out by a KameShige story after they went on one of the hello!mornings and started saying "disgusting" things to each other on the phone?)
That being said, RPF is pretty strange. But, I think most H!P fan fiction writers know that they are not writing about the "real people" behind the idol images, but the idol images themselves.

FWIW, I was not thinking of fan fiction when I had my moment of wondering. I was only thinking of the visual arts. Because, frankly, anyone can bang out a thousand words of sub-literate and sometimes pornographic fantasy.
It takes some actual talent and skill, however, to not only capture but attractively stylize the image of a celebrity well enough to make other fans go "Ooo!"
No one goes "Ooo!" at fan fiction.

But I bet the Weasley bros would balk at illustrations of themselves doing it with eachother, too, no matter how masterful the art style. ^^;

Have you seen the picture of Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan (Merry and Pippen from LOTR) being shown a Risque peice of fanart involving the two of them?
Their faces, it's like a peice of them died a little bit

. I'm going to go try to find the picture

Y'know, sometimes I wonder what it's like for authors of super popular series (Harry Potter, etc) to come across fics of pairings they've never even thought of

.
(I also wonder if JK Rowling's read that fic where she's violated by the Giant Squid.)
